Akwa Ibom State Governor, Victor Attah (right), hands over his letter of intent to the chairman of the PDP Presidential Candidate Search Committee, Ekiti State Governor Ayo Fayose, during a ceremony at the Ekiti House, CBD, Abuja.

On April 15th, The Akwa Ibom State Peoples’ Democratic Party (PDP) formally presented a letter of interest in Governor Victor Attah’s presidential ambition to Governor Ayo Fayose (Ekiti State), the chairman of the presidential selection committee.

The leaders of the state PDP said they found Governor Attah to be the "only creditable candidate for the number one office, because of his outstanding performances and national acclaim."

"Governor Attah has the capacity, ability and desire to continue from [where] President Obasanjo [leaves off] in 2007," the letter said. The state party leaders assured Governor Fayose that Governor Victor Attah enjoys full support and sponsorship of the state party, describing Governor Attah as a true believer and supporter of President Obasanjo’s political and economic reforms, especially the war against corruption, the unity of the country, and equitable distribution of the nation’s wealth and resources.

Governor Attah said that he was offering himself as a candidate who will continue with President Obasanjo’s ongoing reforms in the country. "My entrance into the race is an answer to the call by a cross-section of Nigerians who believe in me and my vision," he added.

The governor promised that he was prepared to replicate the development strides he has recorded in Akwa Ibom at the national level, adding that as one of the principal architects of the Federal Capital Territory master plan, he possesses the "magic wand" needed to transform the country.
