American-Adjarian high school student exchange programs

Adjara and the United States have undertaken a program of high school student exchanges. Some of these learning experiences last for an entire school year and others are on a short term basis.

For example, in 2001, 15 high schoolers from New York State visited Batumi and studied at a Batumi secondary school for several weeks. They also were part of an exchange program at the Batumi English Language Lyceum for two weeks. In return 15 Adjarian high school students spent several weeks in the United States living with American families and attending school.

These particular programs were funded by the U. S. government and the International Children’s Aid Fund. A similar reciprocal program is planned for the 2002 school year.
