Medical care includes hundreds of units

Adjarians are proud of the new Khulo Mothers and Children’ Medical Center which provides maternity and other health care. This Center opened in 2001, with state-of-the art facilities and a highly skilled professional staff.

Adjara has 39 hospitals and hundreds of additional health care facilities within the Region. Among the more recently opened medical facilities are the Batumi Maternity House, a Mothers and Childrens Center and a rehabilitation hospital for the poor.

As part of the effort to provide maximum benefit to all citizens ambulance service is free in Adjara.

Adjara maintains the national lead in high rate of childbirths for Georgia. Demographer say the birth rate is 12.3 children per 1000 persons in the population, greatly surpassing the national average of 8.9 per capita. The Khulo district is distinguished by a traditionally high birth rate, where over 500 children are born annually.
