ADJARA, GEORGIA2002

Varied international and domestic works produced at Adjara Publishing

The main publishing house in Batumi, Adjara Publishing, issued over 500 books in its first decade of operations. The same organization produces more than 30 magazines and newspapers annually.

A particularly innovative initiative in international publishing has also been produced in the Region, in this case under the auspices of the Aslan Abashidze Charitable Foundation. The Foundation has adopted the practice of printing United Nations General Assembly legislative acts in Georgian, Russian and English. In addition select documents from other international bodies have been published, including the European Human Rights Act. This was issued in Russian, English, Georgian and French. Among the many books sponsored for publication by the Foundation are translations into Georgian from original works of Plato, Cervantes and Ibn-Sina.
