The US Pan Asian American Chamber of Commerce (USPAACC)
Excellence Awards & Scholarships Dinner awarded eighteen
college scholarships to the next generation of Asian American
achievers. The Scholarship Dinner was held at the Hyatt
Regency Hotel in Washington, D.C. on Wednesday, May 7th.
Established in 1989, the Asian American Scholarship
Fund provides financial assistance to qualified Asian
American high school seniors wishing to pursue a college
education. There is no question that our future
lies in our young people. The USPAACC is proud to be
a catalyst in helping our youth prepare for tomorrow,
said Susan Au Allen, USPAACCs President and CEO.
Funding for these scholarships has largely come from
proceeds from the Excellence Awards & Scholarships
Dinner.
Scholarship recipients came from all parts of the
country and represented numerous ethnic backgrounds.
Labor Secretary Elaine Chao presented the scholarships
to the recipients and CNN Headline News Anchor Sachi
Koto, served as the mistress of ceremonies.
Besides the awarding of the Scholarships, the Excellence
Awards and Scholarships Dinner brought together Americans
of Asian descent, and many other ethnic backgrounds,
to pay tribute to the achievements of some of the best
and brightest among Asian Americans from a wide variety
of disciplines. The dinner also recognized corporations
and government agencies for their efforts to reach out
to Asian Americans. This dinner was held during Asian
Pacific American Heritage Month.
The US Pan Asian American Chamber of Commerce (USPAACC)
was established eighteen years ago to promote, nurture
and propel economic growth by opening doors of contract,
education and other opportunities to Asian Americans
and their business partners in corporate American and
