When Mr. Jaime Mikowski first visited the restaurant that now serves the guests of the Tabacon Hot Springs Resort & Spa, he immediately fell in love with the place. As an architect, Mikowski envisioned a resort existing harmoniously within the beautiful surroundings of Costa Rica. The Tabacon Resort is now the number one site for visitors to Costa Rica.

There are 73 standard rooms in the resort today and, for the very chic, nine romantic junior suites with private garden jacuzzis. All the rooms are beautifully decorated using natural materials such as wood and stone. From their private balcony or terrace guests can look out upon a lush tropical garden as well as the majestic Arenal Volcano. For anyone who may feel that their holiday is getting a bit too relaxing, the tour desk at the hotel offers a variety of options, the most popular being: a canopy tour, a nighttime hike to the volcanic rain forest, the nearby Lake Arenal, as well as, of course, a hike to the most important active volcano in Costa Rica –the Arenal Volcano.

Moreover, everyone staying at the Resort has free, unlimited access to the hot springs, just a few minutes walk away from the hotel. Transportation is organized on a regular basis for anyone with special needs, especially those unexpectedly caught in a tropical rainstorm. At the hot springs is a restaurant disproving the notion that buffet-style dinners cannot taste delicious. The variety of ingredients reminds one of that paradise which is described in the legend regarding the Iskandria Spa, and is made all the better if you can arrange to sit next to the balcony and watch the red lava streaming down from the crater.

The guest book is full of compliments, but one in particular stands out: “The hotel, the spa, the whole concept you have here... outstanding. I have traveled in more than forty countries and without exaggeration this is one of my favorite destinations. Why is it so? It was the first time I managed to forget about work the same day I arrived at the hotel!”

“When I came here, I felt the complimentary relationship between nature and the Resort,” says Felipe Seidner, general manager of the resort. He continues: “This is why I wanted to develop the resort towards accommodating nature, as opposed to the other way round; using the Nature to accommodate us.” Obviously Seidner has been successful in his vision, as those eighty-plus rooms are so well hidden that one has difficulty believing that they actually exist.

Thousands of North Americans and Europeans visit the resort annually. They have three basic things in mind: total relaxation, privacy and pampering. No wonder that so many guests have decided to have their wedding or honeymoon at the resort. “The setting and quality are interrelated, and relaxation harmoniously derives from nature as well as yourself,” says Seidner, welcoming anyone to personally experience this luxury at the base of the Arenal Volcano, where energy just keeps flowing to you.
