Tamarindo appeals to sophisticated tastes

Cala Luna, in Tamarindo, has catered to the tastes of some of America's most rich and famous.

If you were to ever wake up in the middle of the night while staying at the Cala Luna Hotel and Villas, why bother trying to fall asleep again? Rather than slipping back into your slumber it would be far more rewarding to leave the confines of the villa and go for a walk along the nearby beach and listen to the waves teasing each other. If you are lucky you may even catch a number of shooting stars in the course of only a few minutes.

While you wander back to your private villa, you will see the pastel orange and yellow colors shining in the moonlight. As the sun is about to rise, take a morning swim in your private pool before ordering the most beautifully arranged fruit cocktail you’ll ever see. Top it off with a cup of fresh Costa Rican coffee.

For the rest of the day you will delight in such dishes as coconut-ginger ceviche– pieces of marinated fish served in coconut, or lobster-artichoke crepe—fresh lobsters caught a mere 40 yards from the hotel. Cala Luna is partially Italian owned, hence the authentic tiramisu dessert!

Great taste does not begin and end at the plate, for the interior design at Cala Luna is simply divine, from the fine oriental textiles displayed on the wall, to the wooden furniture and locally made pottery on display in the reception area.

Cala Luna also has private villas complete with swimming pools. Huge flower displays await you in your room. The restaurant area has an even larger swimming pool, but, if you are aching to have some sand under your feet, one of the most beautiful white-sand beaches in all of Costa Rica is only a short walk away.

Cala Luna is located a half of a mile south of Tamarindo beach, a very popular town among Americans, but also famous among surfers. The hotel can arrange surfing classes for you, however, according to Daniel Chavarria, the sales and marketing chief at Cala Luna, the lessons continue until you actually learn how to surf! In case you need extra-special lessons, you may be fortunate enough to learn a few secrets from the hotel owner’s son – considered one of the ten best surfers in the world.

Even though Tamarindo is best known for surfing, the activities list doesn’t stop there. Because the weather is so perfect all-year-round, there is ample time to take in sport fishing, diving, kayaking, hiking in the nearby Santa Rosa National Park, historical sites, turtle watching, golfing, or visiting the boiling mud baths. The hotel has its own tour desk, which can organize anything you wish.

Act fast if you are at all thinking about moving to the area. Tamarindo is becoming quite fashionable among Hollywood stars, and more and more private mansions are being built along the beachfront. However, if it happens that your finances do not allow you to purchase, don’t not worry too much. Cala Luna provides such an intimate, luxurious, comfortable, and satisfying experience that one American couple, who originally came for a two night stay, are now passing into their second month.
