If the Romans had been in a position to conquer
Central America, the Iskandria Spa at the Tabacon
Hot Springs Resort would be even more famous than
it is today. Or, who knows, maybe the Romans actually
did visit the Spa, since, according to legend, it
used to be located on the other side of the world,
in a place called Iskandria.
According to the legend: Once upon a time, there
was a beautiful city, surrounded by lush gardens,
breathtaking waterfalls and spectacular rivers. The
name of this magnificent ancient place was Iskandria.
It is there that mythical gods came to indulge and
relax in their leisure time. Located near the River
Nile, Iskandria was a city of unique and extraordinary
beauty, luxury and opulence.
Whatever the truth may be, the resemblance of the
city called Iskandria, described in legend, and the
Iskandria Spa at the Tabacon Resort, is fully compatible.
As the number one spa in Costa Rica, Iskandria is
part of an entire complex the Tabacon Resort,
which also includes the natural hot springs. It is
located at the base of Costa Ricas most famous
volcano, Arenal.
The steaming hot waters of the volcano bring a sense
of purity to the many springs and rivers of the region.
Even after several days of staying here it is still
difficult to know exactly where each pool is. It is
a never-ending journey for those interested in exploring
and, discovering along the way, over one hundred and
fifty different flowers and plant species.
The hot springs waters reach temperatures near one
hundred and five degrees. This is why the resort is
in the process of altering the route of a nearby river,
so that there be a cooling contrast to the heat from
the springs.
The setting of the Spa and hot springs lie in a spiritual
setting derived, according to Felipe Seidner, general
manager of the resort, from the three elements: fire,
water and air. The fire symbolizes the volcano, whose
red lava can be seen at night and whose actions can
be heard and sometimes felt. The water symbolizes
the thermo-mineral hot springs, and dozens of natural
rivers and pools. The last element, the air, symbolizes
the freshness and purity of the breezes and air brought
to the resort from the nearby lake and volcano.
All this gives a visitor to the spa a harmonious feeling.
Whether you decide to indulge yourself in a facial
or body treatment, or one of the fascinating packages,
you will not be disappointed. The treatment rooms
are decorated in the most beautiful way, and you have
a piece of the rainforest right next to you during
the treatment. You can chose between highly trained
male and female therapists.
Some of the most popular body treatments are Watsu,
which gives the body a shiatsu-type of massage in
the mineral hot spring, lymph drainage, which drains
away the toxic in the body, reflexology, which by
using the bodys own pressure points restores
energy throughout the entire body, and volcanic mud
wrap, which literally wraps you up in the natural,
therapeutic volcanic mud before a wash in a private
pool.
The treatment packages dont only have exotic
and appealing names, but they are also a fantastic
way for someone who wants to experience several different
types of treatments at the same time. With names like:
Lava flow balance, Hot spring dance, Tropical rainforest
life, Tabacons beauty ritual, Volcanic mud magic,
these packages promise even more than the name implies.
They offer a taste of the gods life. |
