Panama, more especially Colon, is the region’s largest logistics center, and one of the primary multi-modal logistics centers in the world. “In addition ecological, and adventure tourism attractions make Panama a choice international strategic place for commercial activities and tourism pursuits,” said Victor Valdivieso, executive director of the Colon Chamber of Commerce.
The Panama logistics platform, supported by the Panama Canal, serves 120 maritime routes of 80 countries around the world. The largest merchant fleet in the world is under the Panamanian Ship Registry. There are seven ports including the port with the largest annual movement of containers on the Pacific Coast of Latin America. Panama also has a trans-isthmian railroad specialized in transporting containers from coast to coast in less than an hour.
Copa Airlines have established their “Hub of the Americas” in Panama transporting cargo and passengers to North and South America from the Tocumen Airport, while DHL Global, Caterpillar, and other international companies are taking advantage of the global positioning of Panama for cargo and product distribution to Latin America and indeed the world.
